An intimate and detailed portrait made entirely by hand to your liking and likeness. We sculpt each original cameo into clay and cast the portrait in plaster, sealing to a matte sheen. We mount them onto a base of dazzlingly figured curly maple wood—which we carefully select, dye, and finish by hand to a gloss finish. Plaster frame and cameo compliment the rich warm curly maple wood to create a uniquely contemporary take on traditional portrait sculpture. We aim to deliver a personal treasure or milestone gift that becomes an heirloom to last for generations.

Each and every cameo is finely crafted and original, becoming an instant heirloom that will last generations.

Sculpting

Watch how we transform a piece of clay into a fully sculpted cameo.

Plaster Process

Watch how we pour plaster into the mold and remove the cast once it is set. We make several casts and select the best one for framing.

Upon Ordering:

In addition to your purchase confirmation, you’ll receive an email with a link to your Order Questionary to provide your customization preferences and photo references.

Background Selection:

Curly figure is a naturally occurring feature of less than 4% of maple. When finished properly, the tiger stripe texture catches light like a cat-eye jewel. Each piece is uniquely, naturally and irregularly figured. The premium curly maple wood version features four beautiful stain options:

Smithsonian
Sepia

A rich, medium warm brown tone with touches of golden curl.

Orsay
Russet

A rich brown tone, with dark inky curl accents.

Hermitage
Honey

A bright, warm yellow tone with vivid curl accents.

Acropolis
Olive

A subdued and sophisticated green with deep curl accents.

Orientation:

Cameo orientation is either right or left facing, and totally up to your preference!

Reference Photos:

We’ll guide you on how to snap and provide the best reference photos. You’ll be able to upload photos from your computer or smart phone. If a photo doesn't work for our needs, we'll let you know to try again.

Making the Cameo:

Once we have approved reference photos, we will schedule production to make your cameo(s).

Matthew Addison & Travis Mann

Matthew Addison and Travis Mann formed Otho Studio to merge their creative passions into one force. Otho is a source for curators of expressive dwellings to find original sculptural creations. The pair design and sculpt every piece by hand with meticulous care from concept to finishing.

From lifelong backgrounds in art and design, Matty and Travis combine their deep love of art history’s traditional materials and techniques with an irreverent perspective and relaxed attitude.

Matty and Travis are currently based out of their coastal studio in North Carolina with their dog and muse Windsor always by their side.
